5/28 - UHO Junior Division Overall Championship: Jags and Canes Will Wrestle 2-out-of-3 for the Belt

Coaches of Jaguars and Lady Hurricanes gather together to discuss timing for the championship games.

It is fitting that the Jaguars and Lady Hurricanes will play for the league's Juniors overall championship.

Both teams played well during the 2010 District IV Mid-Season Tournament, finishing 2nd (Canes) and 3rd (Jags). Perhaps in the back of the Jags' mind might be the fact that the Canes knocked off the Jags to advance to the championship game at the tournament.

Both teams have been involved in the continual leap-frogging of positioning that has taken place in the Juniors division.

Even more, the Juniors division has had the most competitive balance during the entire season. If it weren't for a unconscious defensive error in the last game of Jags v. Canes, we could be looking at a three-way tie for the Juniors division this half; this would've resulted in a playoff for the half title, prior to teams playing for the overall title.

As such, the Jags slid by the Canes in an exciting 7-6 finish on Wednesday, 5/26, thus locking up the second-half division championship for the Jags. The Jags finished the second half with a record of 7-2.

However, due to the fact that the Canes won the first half with a 6-3 record, both teams will lock up again to settle the lingering question: who is the best overall in Juniors?

This question will get answered Saturday, May 29th, at 8:00 am at UHO.

The Jags and Canes will play two games. If the teams split the games, a third and final game will be played Monday evening at 7 PM. However, if one teams rises to take both games, that team shall be the overall division champion.

The Lady Hurricanes have the edge when it comes to overall offensive firepower. This was exemplified in a 30-9 pounding of the Kool Katz over two weeks ago. However, the Jaguars are no slouches and have the advantage when it comes to speed. Both teams have big kickers and good pitching. Both teams are fairly even when it comes to defense.

If their last regular season game has any say about this playoff, the playoff games will come down to who makes the last mental mistake... and it's the last mistake that can cost the most.

Good luck to both teams.
